Our mission

The NASPI Control Room Solution Task Team’s (CRSTT) mission is to work collectively with other NASPI task teams to advance the use of real-time synchrophasor applications for the purpose of improving control room operations and grid resilience and reliability. The CRSTT will use its experience and regional diversity to provide advice, direction, support and guidance to NASPI stakeholders and other organizations involved in the development and implementation of real-time synchrophasor applications.

Task Team Meeting

Much of NASPI’s impact is due to the ongoing volunteer work that occurs within its task teams. These teams develop and promulgate best practices while serving as incubators for new ideas and approaches to solve common problems. During quarterly task team meetings, participants will have the...

Videos

January 18, 2018
Odd voltage oscillations and periodic dips on ATC’s southern Wisconsin system captured in synchrophasor data but not visible in SCADA (magenta trend on plot).
November 30, 2017
Frequency oscillations observed following a double circuit line outage that pseudo islanded a small (100 MW) load area. (Still connected to the eastern interconnection via a back to back HVDC link).
March 21, 2017
An oscillation event associated with a wind generation plant on the ERCOT system displayed using RTDMS.

CRSTT Use Case
Description
An oscillation was observed in the frequency and voltage data from a single PMU in an area with several PMUs. The map below (see Figure 1) shows the relative location of three PMUs on the NPPD system. A significant customer (steel mill) is physically located somewhere near the end of the word...

CRSTT Use Case
Description
A post-event analysis was conducted by ERCOT engineers for a compound event on the grid. In the process of analyzing a loss-of-generation event using PMU data, ERCOT engineers discovered other disturbances immediately before the loss of generation. This triggered a more in-depth analysis of these...

CRSTT Use Case
Description
ATC implemented a back to back HVDC system in 2014 and a Static Var Compensation [SVC] system in 2017. We have SCADA data available from each site scanning every 4 seconds and we also have high speed fault recording at both sites but neither of these data sources provided a picture of the dynamic...
