| October 12, 2005 | EIPP Workshop -"Non-parametric cross spectral density analysis of ambient power grid data," 2:00 to 6:00 PM, Hyatt Regency Crystal City. After receiving some positive feedback on our inertia dynamics analysis workshop we have decided to amend the topic list and extend the duration. You are invited to attend the OLATT Analysis Workshop from 2-6 PM on October 12 at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City. Tuition is free and all EIPP members and correspondents are welcome. Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop with at least Microsoft Excel. MATLAB 7.0 is preferred. Prof. Dan Trudnowski will lead this workshop beginning with a review of inertia dynamics and simple data retrieval and plotting tasks. As the workshop progresses emphasis will be placed on non-parametric cross spectral density analysis of ambient power grid data, obtained from phasor measurement units. Participants will learn to identify modes, determine mode shapes (which generators participate in the mode), and work with analysis tools and routines. The workshop will conclude with a roundtable discussion of the possible implications of mode tracking on power system operations and system loading. MATLAB and Excel example templates will be distributed at the workshop, as will the phasor data to be analyzed. |

| December 6, 2004 | The Off Line Applications Task Team held a meeting from 2:00pm to 5:00pm on December 6, 2004 at the Doubletree Inn, Lloyd Center, Portland, OR. This meeting preceded the EIPP general meeting, which was held at the same location on the following day. Invitations for this meeting were sent to the entire EIPP working group, and the turnout was very large (59 attendees). Therefore, the previously determined format of a working session on system analysis was not appropriate for this forum, and instead, short, formal presentations were given by Joe Chow of RPI and NYPA and Dale Osborne of MISO. A short discussion was held regarding data sets and formats by Ross Guttromson of PNNL, and Navin Bhatt of AEP held a general question and answer session. The meeting was completed with John Hauer of PNNL providing a 45-minute overview of the MATLAB-based DSI toolbox using data sets representing various power system performance aspects. |
